LAKE COUNTY, FLA. — Sometimes you just have to say no, even at gunpoint, even if it would help catch the bad guy.
That’s what happened when a woman was about to get into her car and leave the Viva liquor store in Mount Dora at 5:40 p.m. Saturday when a man wearing all black clothing and a ski mask pulled up in a car next to her and grabbed her purse.
The bandit, who was brandishing a black and silver semi-automatic handgun, wanted more.
“You’re not getting my phone,” she said.
He took off from the store at 101 S. Highland St., in a silver-colored SUV.
Could police have traced the phone leading to his arrest?
“One-hundred percent,” said Detective James Rice. “I could have gotten an emergency subpoena and tracked it,” he said.
The victim apparently wasn’t thinking about that, however.
“I know, everybody keeps their secrets on their phones,” Rice told her. He’s just glad she wasn’t hurt.
