LADY LAKE – Lady Lake Police on Saturday arrested one of the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives in what turned out to be a not-so-routine traffic stop.
Donald Eugene Fields II was driving a white pickup truck when stopped by Sgt. Michelle Bilbrey at 9:15 a.m. at U.S. Highway 27/441 and Rolling Acres Road. The license plate did not match the registration.
The department released body cam footage Monday showing Fields with a woman passenger during the encounter. Working with a backup officer, Bilbrey checked the computer in her car, and can be heard at one point asking herself, “Why is this blinking?”
The backup officer, in his patrol car, got a call on his cell phone and tells her, “This guy is on the FBI’s most-wanted list.”
Fields faces federal charges of child sex trafficking and state charges of child rape. Fields had been added to the most-wanted list in May 2023.
When Bilbrey went back to the pickup, Fields could be heard telling is passenger, “I could have a gun. I don’t know.”
That escalated things quickly. He was ordered out of the vehicle and searched.
Fields’ companion, protesting at first, had to be warned to calm down or she would also be arrested. It is not clear what her relationship is to Fields. She quickly began sobbing.
When Bilbrey went back to the pickup, Fields could be heard telling his passenger, “I could have a gun, I don’t know.”
Lady Lake Police Chief Steve Hunt commended Sgt. Bilbrey and the department for outstanding work. “Sometimes, an everyday traffic stop turns into a real game-changer. This is a reminder that every officer, every day, is out there making a real difference.” The FBI also praised the department.
