The New Orleans terrorist attack that killed 15 and injured dozens is a stark reminder that life and the freedom to be safe from evildoers a thread tugged taut.
On a day when people should be celebrating the new year and a game between two fabled college football teams, the nation is reeling. That goes for me too, a Dawg fan and University of Georgia alum.
That’s not to say that life cannot and should not go on. College football itself is a wonderful distraction from a difficult, sometimes fearful life.
Fans streaming through the gates for the Sugar Bowl will no doubt be looking over their shoulders. And those of us who are watching on TV will be holding our breath a little, and not just over the score.
Evil will always be with us, but here’s to prayers for justice and peace.
