LAKE COUNTY – Cameras don’t blink so they can help catch murder suspects. Police on Tuesday arrested and charged a second suspect in the murder of a man on July 8.
That’s the day officers were called to the 2200 block of Aitkin Loop in Leesburg, where they found James Jordan Jr., 20, lying on the ground near a residence with multiple gunshot wounds.
A surveillance camera picked up a view of three people inside a Nissan SUV talking to Jordan.
One suspect, Ondrique D. Mosley, 18, was arrested on Aug. 30, and charged with being a principal to first-degree homicide.
On Tuesday, Leesburg police, with the aid of Lady Lake and SWAT arrested Neville Muirhead Jr., 22, on a warrant for the murder, and he added to his troubles by ramming a police car while trying to escape, leading to charges of aggravated battery on a law enforcement office with a deadly weapon and fleeing and eluding police.
The murder was cold-blooded, according to Mosley’s probable cause affidavit.
“The victim walked down the driveway and spoke with the occupants, He eventually entered the vehicle and sat with the subjects for an extended period of time. At approximately 1353 hours, the victim exits the car and says farewell to the occupants. He appears to shake hands or give a hand gesture to the front passenger occupant. As the victim turns to talk up the driveway, the front passenger displays a firearm and shoots the victim in the back several times.
“The victim collapsed and the vehicle began to drive awa y south on Aitkin Loop. He drove forward approximately 30 feet before suddenly stopping again. He reversed to the incident location again. While in the roadway, the left rear occupant exited the vehicle and ran up to the victim. He reached down and took unknown items from the victim’s pocket. He ran back around the vehicle but returned a second time. When he ran back up, he displayed a firearm and fired several more shots into the victim. The video clearly showed that the second shooter had a different firearm than the one used by the first shooter, who was the front passenger occupant.”
The vehicle was seen on subdivision cameras, which captured the license plate number.
Cell phone messages also aided investigators including one from Jordan’s sister to Mosley who reportedly admitted being the driver.
The case is still under investigation. Tipsters can call the Leesburg Police Department Detective Division at 352-728-9862 or Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477).
